What foods can you eat on a no sugar diet?

A diet that eliminates all sources of added sugars is known as a “no sugar diet.” Following such a diet requires abstaining from all foods and beverages that contain added sugars including things like soda, candy, baked goods and sweetened beverages. On a diet that does not contain any sugar, you are allowed to consume the foods on the following list:

  • Meat, fish and poultry: Meat, fish and poultry are all excellent sources of protein and contrary to popular belief, they do not contain any added sugars.
  • Vegetables: On a diet with no sugar, you are permitted to eat any and all vegetables.
  • Fruits: Only fresh fruits and berries are permitted, while dried fruits and fruits packed in syrup should be avoided at all costs because they contain sugars that have been added to them.
  • Grains whole: Quinoa, oats, brown rice and whole wheat bread are all examples of whole grains that are permitted on a diet that excludes sugar.
  • Legumes: Beans, lentils and peas are all examples of legumes and they are all excellent sources of protein that do not contain any added sugars.
  • Nuts and seeds: Nuts and seeds, such as almonds, walnuts, chia seeds and flaxseeds, do not contain any added sugars and are good sources of healthy fats and protein.
  • Dairy: Milk, cheese and yoghurt are examples of dairy products that are permitted on a no-sugar diet. However, it is important to be aware that certain dairy products, such as flavoured yoghurts and sweetened condensed milk, do contain added sugars.
  • Natural sweeteners: Honey, maple syrup and stevia are among the natural sweeteners that can be consumed in moderation while adhering to a diet that excludes sugar.

On a diet with no added sugar, you can still eat these foods, but you should limit your intake of them because they still have some natural sugars in them. It is important to keep this in mind.
