There are many ways to store fruits for long time, such as by freezing, canning, drying or putting them in a root cellar.
Freezing:
- If you need to wash, peel and cut the fruit.
- Put fruit on a cookie sheet and put it in freezer for about an hour.
- Then put the frozen fruit in cases or bags that won’t let air in.
Canning:
- Clean jars and their lids.
- Boil fruit for a few minutes in sauce or water.
- Put fruit and liquid in the jars, leaving a little room at the top.
- Put lids on the jars and boil them in a water bath for as long as it says to.
Drying:
- Cut fruit into thin slices and dry it in a low-heat dehydrator or oven.
- Once fruit is dry, put it in a bag or container that won’t let air in.
Root cellar storage:
- Keep fruits in a cool, dark place with a temperature between 32 and 40 degrees Fahrenheit and humidity between 90 and 95 percent.
It’s important to remember that differrent fruits have different storage needs, so you want to find out what those needs are for the fruit you wannt to store.
